Invocations to Sage Patañjali

yogena cittasya padena vācāṁ malaṁ śarīrasya ca vaidyakena
yo’pākarot taṁ pravaraṁ munīnāṁ patañjaliṁ prāñjalirānato’smi
I bow with folded hands to Patañjali, the best of sages, he who removed
the impurity of the mind-stuff through Yoga, that of language through word,
that of the body through medicine.
ābāhu-puruṣākāraṁ śaṅkha-cakrāsi- dhāriṇaṁ
sahasra-śīrṣaṁ śvetaṁ praṇamāmi patañjalim
I salute Patañjali who has a human form as far as his arms, bearer of a
conch shell, a cakra (wheeled weapon) and a sword, who is white,
he who has a thousand heads.
